Fifty years ago, Mr. Gary Hayes, a Little in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, launched the annual United Way fundraising campaign at Yingling’s Golf Center on Jefferson Blvd. Fast forward to today, on the anniversary of that event, Gary Hayes is now offering a $30,000 matching challenge to organizations supporting underserved youth. He will match donations dollar-for-dollar, up to $30,000, to benefit the organizations he credits with saving his life as a once-at-risk youth.
The finale of this fundraiser will culminate in a celebratory family fun day at Yingling’s Golf Center, where it all began. Today, various at-risk youth organizations will come together for a day filled with activities, food, and laughter. Participating organizations include the Boys and Girls Club, Girls Inc., the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, United Way, and, of course, Big Brothers Big Sisters.
