HAGERSTOWN, MD (January 17, 2020) — United Way of Washington County is excited to announce along with partners: Court Appointed Special Advocates of Washington County, MD, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Washington County, MD, The Community Foundation of Washington County, MD, & Meritus Health, Washington County’s second annual Volunteer Expo. The event will be held at Robinwood Professional Center on Friday, April 17th, from 3pm – 6pm. The Washington County Volunteer Expo is a free event, open to the public. Nonprofit, volunteer-based organizations and individuals interested in volunteering are encouraged to attend. This event is designed to connect residents to the many organizations who are in need of volunteers right here in Washington County. The idea is that residents can peruse the various organizations, all in one location, based on their particular interests and skillsets.
April has been designated as National Volunteer Month; a month dedicated to honoring volunteers in our communities as well as encouraging volunteerism. During the Volunteer Expo, Washington County nonprofit and volunteer-based agencies will have a chance to reach more volunteers and explain the mission of their organization. Attendees are encouraged to attend to learn more about the various volunteer opportunities in the area as well as participate in on the spot "instant volunteering". Collection spots will be offered for clothing, food & hygiene supplies as well as pet supplies and will be donated to various charities in Washington County. A training workshop offering CEUs (continuing education units) is planned as well. Around 55 nonprofit agencies are anticipated to attend, offering a wide range of volunteer opportunities to Washington County residents. In 2019, this event featured 55 nonprofit and volunteer-based agencies. These agencies were given the opportunity to market and connect with the more than 300 attendees!
Registration is not required for volunteers; however it is recommended. Nonprofit and volunteer-based organizations can register online beginning Friday, January 17th.
