Fill the Bus Weekend Event to Support Washington County Children in Need & Teachers
HAGERSTOWN, MD (August 7, 2019) – United Way of Washington County, Maryland is pleased to announce that the 2019 Fill the Bus school supply drive event will take place on Friday August 17th and Saturday August 18th, 2019 . Fill the Bus continues to be a community collaborative event for Washington County. For the past five years, this event has ensured that Washington County children in need have the school supplies they need to begin the school year. Fill the Bus is a community partnership between Wal-Mart, Children in Need, United Way of Washington County and Washington County Public Schools.
Fill the Bus will take place on Friday August 16th at Wal-Mart – Garland Groh Blvd and on Saturday, August 17th at the Walmart Drive location. Both days, the event will run from 9am through 7pm. Volunteers will distribute a list of the most needed supplies out to shoppers and collect donated items to help fill the bus. Volunteers are still needed and are encouraged to sign up at: http://www.unitedwaywashcounty.org/fill-bus
Every school year, over 900 Washington County school-aged children benefit from Children in Need's continual supply of clothing, hygiene items, school essentials and more. Fill the Bus is historically a 2-day event that aides Children In Need with the collection of school supplies and the children in our community who need and rely on our support, the most. New this year, items will be collected to support Washington County teachers in an effort to better supply them with the essential items needed in classrooms
A special “Teacher Open House” event will take place at Children in Need on August 26th and 27th. This event will allow WCPS teachers the opportunity to visit Children in Need and select the items most needed for their classrooms.
The Fill the Bus partnership also ensures local schools with a supply of stuffed backpacks for children in need. Schools can determine the specific need from within their facility and distribute accordingly.
A list of the most needed and common supplies for all ages:
