United Way Takes On New Role As Volunteer Connector On October 1, 2014, Volunteer Washington County transferred its role as the community’s volunteer connector to United Way of Washington County. "Founding members of Volunteer Washington County, Sam Cool, Roxanne Ober and Bernadette Wagner have built a great asset for agencies and community residents. One Day Event To Yield 83 Completed Projects by 850+ Volunteers  More than 850 individuals will be tackling projects at local agencies and homes of elderly and disabled county residents on Thursday, October 9, 2014.  In one day, 83 projects will be completed at 43 nonprofit agencies and 10 homes. Kickoff Event for Campaign and Day of Caring Each year, United Way hosts a Kickoff Event to mark the start of campaign. Although the trend of only running a campaign in the fall has changed and is now open year-round to fit company schedules, the event is still an awaited mark to signal that campaign is up and running. The 23rd annual Day of Caring is scheduled for October 9, 2014. Nonprofit agencies and homeowners who are elderly and/or disabled are encouraged to submit projects that can be completed in a 7-8 hour period. Projects will focus on improving safety in the homes to decrease the chance for injury and increase accessibility. United Way of Washington County will host its Annual Meeting on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Fountain Head Country Club. More than 100 donors and volunteers are expected to attend this event. Two important volunteer awards will be presented: Robert T. Barnhart Award for Service Excellence and the Jesse L. Kagle Award for Distinguished Volunteer Service. Campaign Finale The annual Campaign Finale was attended by nearly 100 individuals representing 24 companies and 20 nonprofit agencies. Brian Flook and Clarence Horst, co-chairman of the 2013 Campaign announced the total raised: $1,322,514. This will potentially impact at least 18,000 Washington County residents.
