WASHINGTON COUNTY’S ANNUAL VOLUNTEER EXPO RETURNS

Nonprofit organizations are encouraged to register by March 18th, 2022.

HAGERSTOWN, MD (February 21, 2022) — Meritus Health, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Washington County Commission on Aging, and United Way of Washington County have teamed up to bring back Washington County’s 3rd Annual Volunteer Expo for the first time since 2019.

The Volunteer Expo is a completely free event that introduces volunteer-based organizations to interested community members that are looking for opportunities to serve in Washington County. It is designed to promote meaningful connections that foster strong ongoing relationships for community service. Additionally, the event will offer free educational workshops on a variety of important topics like Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES), Narcan training, homeless outreach, health insurance access, safe infant sleep practices, and more.

“Volunteering matters and has the power to change lives! It creates a sense of personal satisfaction and a confidence that your efforts are impactful, all while offering a chance to truly connect with your community,” said Alicia Taluskie, Big Brothers Big Sisters’ own Enrollment & Matching Coordinator, who looks forward to the opportunity to meet prospective Bigs that can be paired with Littles who have been on the waiting list for weeks or months.

Jocelyn Hauer, the Director of Engagement at United Way of Washington County, MD states: “Organizations and volunteers alike have been discouraged by the changes brought on by the pandemic. Finding opportunities and support that are offered in the preferred format have been challenging.” As a result, onsite and virtual volunteer opportunities will be showcased so that those with specific health considerations can still participate in meaningful service.

Nonprofits and other volunteer-based organizations must register by Friday, March 18th to secure a table. Because of indoor distancing precautions, available tables will be limited and will be reserved on a first-come first-served basis. Volunteers are also encouraged to register as participants as soon as possible, though registration is available as late as event day.
