Jesse L. Kagle, former executive director, served 24 years leading the way with a true sense of community spirit through his work with United Way of Washington County, MD.  As a tribute to him an award called the Jesse L. Kagle Award for Distinguished Volunteer Service was named in his honor.  Since 1988, this has been awarded to someone who consistently demonstrates a desire to improve the community through their work with United Way.  The award is determined by past Kagle award recipients who review nominations and then choose the winner.

The Robert T. Barnhart Award for Service Excellence, which was named to honor long-term volunteer Bob Barnhart, was created to recognize an individual, team or organization that goes above and beyond expectations during Day of Caring, all while displaying a Live United spirit. The award is determined by Day of Caring volunteers who review nominations and then choose the winner.

Both the Kagle and Barnhart awards will be announced at the Annual Meeting.
